Science Museum Lates
Mind-altering cocktail tasting

On Wednesday 25 July, AHSNs will be taking part in the Science Museum ‘Medicine’ themed Lates – a free, adults-only, after-hours theme night that will highlight all things medical, from the 70th anniversary of the NHS to the 50th anniversary of the first liver and heart transplants, as well as a whole host of exciting exhibits that examine how innovation is changing the face of health and medicine.

#KnowYourPulse: preventing strokes with mobile tech

AHSNs are supporting the roll-out of new technology that can detect Atrial Fibrillation (AF), an irregular heart rhythm which if undetected and untreated can lead to stroke. We’ll be running a drop in session for people to try out some of the mobile electrocardiogram (ECG) devices that can detect irregular heart rhythms quickly and easily. There will also be a video display sharing information about AF and anticoagulation.

INFORMATION AGE – LEVEL 2

The impact of genomic sequencing

Wessex AHSN is supporting the Wessex NHS Genomic Medicine Centre to showcase genomic medicine as a modern medical marvel. We’ll be running a hands-on DNA extraction activity and a genetic taste test, complemented by a video display featuring Wessex patient Ilona and the exome sequencing which saved her life in intensive care.

BASEMENT GALLERY – LEVEL 1

My House of Memories

House of Memories is a pioneering project, making a real difference to people living with dementia, their carers, families and communities. Developed by National Museums Liverpool, it has now spread UK wide with help from the Innovation Agency, the AHSN for the North West Coast.

The first of its kind in the world, come and experience the ‘My House of Memories’ app – developed by Damibu, whose MD Dave Burrows is now an NHS Innovation Accelerator Fellow.

INFORMATION AGE – LEVEL 2

We’ll also be showing new films we’ve made in partnership with NHS England about digital health innovations in the NHS.

The Medicine themed Science Museum Lates takes place Wednesday 25 July from 18.45 to 22.00. Admission is free although some events may require a ticket. Over 18s only.
