Building Diversity in Digital Health: The Why and the How

Event: Building Diversity in Digital Health

The Building Diversity in Digital Health event is a collaboration between NHS England, the Shuri Network and the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN and will be held online via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 23 September (13:00-16:00) and Thursday 24 September (10:00-13:00).

With 19.1% of staff in the NHS identifying as BAME, an inclusive leadership community reflecting the diversity of the NHS workforce and the population served is essential. The Building Diversity in Digital Health event will shine a spotlight on the challenges that exist to ensure diversity and inclusion supports the innovation and transformation ambitions for the communities they serve. The content will also reflect on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter campaign.

Key speakers confirmed: Lord Victor Adebowale (NHS Confederation), Dr Indra Joshi (NHSX), Dr Ayesha Rahim (Shuri Network), Richard Stubbs (Yorkshire & Humber AHSN), Indi Singh (PA Consulting).

This event will appeal to members of the BAME community within health and care providers and healthtech start-ups, as well as senior figures in health and innovation working within diversity and inclusion and also HR staff in the sector. Carers and patients within this community who have an interest in health innovation will also benefit from this event.

Key themes
In the agenda we will explore the following areas:

  • The Shuri Network – the community for BAME women, building inclusive leadership in digital health launching across the north
  • BAME Innovators and Entrepreneurs: The role and the challenges for healthtech entrepreneurs
  • NHS England People Plan: Delivering heritage, culture, potential and talents of all its workforce/wider community to the NHS
  • Implications and impact since COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter campaign.

Timings
Wednesday 23 September 13:00-16:00 and Thursday 24 September 10:00-13:00  (this a secure online event hosted by NHS England on Microsoft Teams).
