Latest Atlas case studies showcase healthcare innovations and patient safety improvements supported by AHSNs

The latest case studies to make it onto the AHSN Network’s Atlas of Solutions in Healthcare offer a an exciting insight into the breadth of support being provided by AHSNs around the country to support the development of innovations that are making a real difference to how we meet the needs of the healthcare system.

New additions include:

Healthcab: managing urgent care flow

When a patient’s life is at risk, any delay in receiving clinical treatment can have a major impact. SBRI Healthcare, Yorkshire & Humber AHSN and Eastern AHSN have all helped 365 Response develop its Healthcab technnology to better manage urgent care flow. Read more.

Improving hydration in care homes

As the result of a pilot hydration programme in care homes led by the Oxford Patient Safety Collaborative, fewer residents are suffering urinary tract infections (UTIs). Read more.

LPZ: improving quality and safety in care homes

Find out how the East Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative piloted the audit tool LPZ to improve safety in care homes – identifying trends and creating opportunities for early interventions. Read more.

Medic Bleep: improving operational efficiency for patients

The development of this alternative to the traditional pager system was supported by Eastern AHSN to improve the efficiency of communication within and between teams in the hospital, as well with its primary and community care partners with the overall aim to improve patient safety and release time to care for patients. Read more.

Safer culture, better care: the ‘SCORE’ assessment tool

Over 9,000 staff in 96 teams are using a validated assessment tool for safety culture introduced by the South West Patient Safety Collaborative called SCORE: safety, communication, operational risk, resilience and reliability, and engagement. Read more.

Spotting the signs of sepsis

The Health Innovation Network (AHSN for South London) has co-designed and produced a mini-series called ‘Spotting the Signs of Sepsis’ with and for parents of children under fiveto raise awareness of sepsis for clinicians and parents, and quicker identification and treatment of the condition. The aim of Atlas is to freely share innovation examples, spread best practice and help speed and scale up the adoption of innovation across health and care. Each example meets one or more of the gaps identified by the NHS in its Five Year Forward View: improving quality; impact on health and wellbeing; and increasing efficiency.
