The NHS England patient safety team has released its impact report for 2022/23.
Worldwide, patient safety incidents cause death and disability. Patient safety is about maximising the things that go right and minimising the things that go wrong for people receiving healthcare. It is integral to the NHS’s definition of quality in healthcare, alongside effectiveness and patient experience.
The NHS Patient Safety Strategy aims for continuous improvement of patient safety, alongside wider quality improvement. This strategy underlines how crucial patient safety research and innovation are to this aim.
Programmes are commissioned by NHS England patient safety team and delivered by the AHSNs through their 15 Patient Safety Collaboratives.
The impact report for 2022-23 provides the latest information on how AHSNs are supporting health and care services to improve safety in these areas:
- Managing deterioration
- Maternity and neonatal
- Medicines safety
- Mental health
- System safety
