Delivered in partnership with the AHSNs, the Innovation and Technology Payment (ITP) programme supports NHS England’s commitment to accelerate the adoption and spread of proven and affordable innovations, as set out in the Five Year Forward View and NHS Long Term Plan.

The ITP aims to remove financial and procurement barriers to support the NHS to adopt innovative medical devices, diagnostics, and digital products.

An ITP technical notes document will be published in August 2020 on NHS England’s website.

MedTech Funding Mandate

In the NHS Long Term Plan, NHS England committed to introducing a MedTech Funding Mandate from April 2020, in which a selection of NICE-approved, cost saving medical technologies were to be mandated through the NHS Standard Contract and funded locally.  This has been paused and an update will be provided during the course of 2020/21.

Rapid Uptake Products(RUPs) 2020/21

Cardiovascular, respiratory and cancer diseases are three of the clinical priorities for the NHS highlighted in the Long-Term Plan. Successful medicinal and technology products identified through the RUPs competitive process will start mid-October 2020 onwards.  Further updates will be provided nearer the time.

Pathway Transformation Fund

Phase 3 for the Pathway Transformation Fund will begin during quarter 4 of 2020/21.  Further updates will be provided nearer the time.
